Windows 7 Instructions for the Rogers HTC Dream 911 update

If you're not with Rogers and you don't have an HTC Dream, you can safely ignore this post.

For those that asked, this is the email I received from Rogers after I told them that I had Windows 7 and had troubles with the HTC Sync update.

Remember that it is for HTC Dream (with keyboard) handset only.

Also important, this update contains a "perfected SPL" (google this term for more info) which will make rooting your phone impossible at the moment.

For more info about Rogers and their bad implementation of Android handsets, visit iwantmyonepointsix.com. I'll have more to say about this fiasco later....

Upgrade Instructions for Rogers HTC Dream

Requirements:

- Rogers Dream
- Battery Level of 50% or more. Do not start upgrade if battery level less than 50%
- MicroSD card formatted in FAT32, please note cards formatted in FAT will not work.

Installing the Update via MicroSD Card:

1) Download the HTC_Dream_Update.zip and extract the file within, DREAIMG.nbh to the root of the microSD card.

2) Backup your personal data: All personal data (contacts, applications, photos, bookmarks, etc) stored on the device will be lost after the update process. There are 3rd party applications on Android Market that can back up your applications and personal data.

3) Power off the device.

4) Remove the microSD card from your device (if you have one already installed), press in on the microSD card to eject it and then remove it from the slot.

5)Insert the microSD card with the DREAIMG.nbh on it in the microSD slot, slide it into the slot until you feel a “click”.

6) Press and hold both Power and Camera buttons at the same time until the blue/white screen appears.

The update will automatically begin installing, follow the on-screen instructions, press the trackball when prompted to press “Action”

Once the update is complete, “Press Action to Complete” will be displayed. Press the trackball to reboot the device and complete the upgrade process remove the microSD card

Has anyone had this problem, I'm stuck in bootloader (tricolor screen, with no fastboot).
This occured after loading this version of the dreaimg.nbh on top of an RC29 version. I was trying to unroot from cyanogen as to apply the rogers update after losing 3G. As I lost 3G and wiped my phone, I couldn't sign on to the gmail account on my now T-mobile phone from Rogers. Being stuck, I saw this extracted dreaimg.nbh from the actual rogers upgrade, thinking this will change me over to a rogers phone and get my 3G back, but it didn't. I'm ALWAYS stuck on bootloader (it tries to apply the dreaimg.nbh and FAILS!!!) after powering whether you are pressing camera or not, or trying to get into fastboot. After two days of trying all versions of dreaimg RC7/8/29/30/33, all of them give a "not allowed" 002802; most likely something to do with CID not matching, only one that brings me to screen of bootloader is this version... RC??? but it fails on update at the very first: DREAIMG.nbh - FAIL... (doesn't even get down to radio) so although not a brick phone, pretty much one. The bootloader shows this:

DREA100 PVT 32B RUUNBH
HBOOT-0. 95. 0000
CPLD-4
RADIO-2. 22. 19.26I

Sep 2 2008

Seria10

Any help is much appreciated...

Hey, based on your HBoot version, it seems like you could try to install a different recovery image and boot from that?

fastboot devices (to make sure that fastboot "sees" your device)
fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-dream-v1.5.2.img

Or if you're okay with losing root, maybe try installing the previous Rogers update:
